Mark Warner gets a “Second Life”

by Joe on September 1, 2006

Mark Warner must easily be the most techno-savvy of the 2008 presidential candidates. He has previously used online mediums like blogs aggressively. Now he has also made an appearance in a massively multiplayer online game called “Second Life,” where hundreds of thousands of gamers adopt online personas or “avatars” and build their own world. He created an avatar of a guy in a suit and used that to deliver his stump speech online to a crowd in the “Second Life” virtual world.

There are lots of online gamers out there, with a multiplayer game like World of Warcraft commanding 6 million players at last count. While many of those people are overseas, a substantial number of them are Americans–and going online to talk with them is a very smart thing to do. Given the burgeoning online medium I bet this is not the last time we’ll see this.
