Today, the House of Representatives plans to take up a bill to make online gambling illegal and to ban the use of credit cards for making online wagers. This is because our Republican Congress really cares about you.
Never mind that the real reason many people are drowning in debt is because they can’t make ends meet and have to use credit cards for necessities, and because credit card companies will extend credit to just about anyone.
Never mind that an unpopular war continues to rage in Iraq where we continue to be regaled with videos showing the mutilation of our soldiers.
Never mind that our government continues on a path to a fiscal train wreck, currently owing $156,000 for every man, woman, and child in the nation to meet future obligations.
Never mind that we are paying about $3 a gallon of gasoline because of the nation’s failure to develop a sound energy policy that does not depend on an addiction to oil from other nations.
Never mind that New Orleans continues to languish as billions of dollars continue to be wasted as part of the Katrina recovery effort.
No, Congress has your back when it comes to the things that really matter to you, like online gambling.
Unbelievable.
