It is surprising and alarming that Bush, Rove and Gonzales, according to the evidence obtained thus far (and why it's necessary to hold hearings to obtain all the evidence), appear to have tried to interfere with the work of their U.S. attorneys and then replaced ones who did not respond to pressure to pursue more cases against Democrats and to lay off cases against Republicans. That has nothing to do with the wholesale housecleaning of U.S. attorneys that new presidents typically do, especially when a president of a different party takes over. This goes to the very heart of the integrity of our justice system. If we cannot rely on the justice system to be fair and impartial in the way it pursues cases, then we're no longer in America but in China, Stalinist USSR or some other totalitarian state. The other issues Lou Dobbs mentions are also vitally important, but there is no reason why Congress cannot walk and chew gum, and address all issues of importance to the country.
